Firstly, my deepest condolences to the family, relatives and loved ones of the late Yasmin Ahmad. Chances are, none of them will ever reach and read this blog (almost impossible), the need to write a dedication lingers, ever since reading The Star post. I've just got to write something. somewhere. anywhere. here.
In my opinion, all the films and adverts which are cleverly directed by the late Arwah (a title the Malay give to those who had passed away) achieved something what most other local films could've not. Using her specially gifted talents to craft words of tales into life, she managed to bring out a certain qualities of art which captures the hearts of millions living in today's modern multi-ethnic society and at the same time, promote the importance of true community values and essence of genuine racial harmony, in which sadly if I dare say, this nation currently and desperately need. Her vision of 1Malaysia advocated by our prime minister, exist long before and still remains deep within our core (refering to those who actually watched her work). Especially through her beautifully made films and those mini 'feel-good' Petronas commercials during festive seasons - Raya, CNY, Diwali and, of course, Merdeka Day.
The news of her passing on 25th July 2009, 11.25pm at Damansara Specialist Centre, was a very devastating news indeed. A National Treasure lost forever. Malaysia had lost its beloved Storyteller. She will be deeply missed by all, including me. May your soul rest in peace. You will be remembered.
P.S, Sepet should have won a Nobel Price for promoting the word 'Peranakans' internationally. I'm willing to sign a petition for that one.
